1.Meal etiquette

In Japan, it is bad manners to eat while making noise during meals.

This is the same in Thailand. Among them, the difference between Japan and Thailand is when eating noodles.

In Japan, it is common to eat ramen and udon noodles while making a noise, and it feels like they are eating more deliciously.

However, in Thailand it is a violation of manners and is illegal. If you eat while making a noise, you can see it with white eyes from the surroundings (When I eat without knowing this, the Thai people in the company warned me).

When you eat noodles in Thailand, you always get a ranger or a spoon. Even if you don’t have it, there is a chopstick holder on the table and it’s in there.

And it is common to eat with a spoon and chopsticks without making a noise.

It is also a violation of etiquette in Thailand to lift dishes during meals.

In Thailand, tableware is basically eaten on the desk.

For example, when drinking soup, instead of holding a bowl, use a spoon to drink without a bowl. I think it’s similar to South Korea style.

In Japan, when you drink miso soup, you put your mouth in the bowl, but in Thailand, you don’t put your mouth in the tableware.

The above two are the manners of eating that should be taken care of in Thailand.

2.Manners in interpersonal relationships

This behavior that you often see when traveling to Thailand.

This is called Wai in Thai, which is equivalent to bowing in Japan. In Thailand, it is common to greet superiors with their hands together.

Especially when you meet someone who is not very close to you or you meet for the first time, it is not a good impression if you neglect Wai.

In fact, when I was working in Thailand and meet Thai people customer, I always do that action.

Basically, if other person makes a wai, I think that it will be a good impression if the recipient also returns.
