Current situation of Koh Samui

In Thailand, there are 4 consecutive holidays from 9/4 (Friday) due to Songkran’s transfer holiday for 4 days.
Therefore, while many people are returning home or traveling, this time I came to the second largest island in Thailand, “Koh Samui” in Surat Thani Province (By the way, the largest island in Thailand). Is Phuket).
It is located within an hour’s flight from Bangkok. By the way, you can also go by bus or ferry from Bangkok, but I don’t recommend it because it takes more than 10 hours.
Currently, foreign tourists can’t come due to the influence of Covid-19, but the current situation is that many people living in Thailand are traveling to resort areas.
However, in conclusion, I feel that Koh Samui is in a very critical situation.
It’s mean that, there are many restaurants and bars in front of the hostel where I’m staying, but those shops don’t open at night.In the first place, there are some shops that are closed or demolished.
Of course, Koh Samui is a famous resort area, so we do accommodations such as hotels, but we do not have massage shops or even currency exchange offices.
However, there is a shopping mall near the hostel where I’m staying, but there is also a food court and a fast food restaurant, so it’s the only salvation.
I will conclude again simply
・More than 80% of shops are closed or demolished
・Therefore, the town is not lively and has a dull atmosphere.
・Now that there are few people, I can tell you about the rare island of Koh Samui.
The above is the current situation of Koh Samui as of September 6, 2020.Of course, when the corona converges and tourists can come, I think the atmosphere will be completely different from the one I see now on Koh Samui.
